2010-11 Representatives
The Launceston Cricket Club has a very proud history of nurturing and producing cricketers for higher representation. The 2010-11 season was a very successful year for former and current Lions players. The LCC congratulates them on their exceptional performances.
Current players
Tasmanian Juniors
Talented fast bowler Alex Pyecroft made the Tasmanian the U/19 team for the Championships in Brisbane in December 2010. Alex took 7 wickets at an average of 18.14 for the championships. His best performance was against Victoria taking 2/10.
Promising all-rounder Ben Fraser made the Tasmanian team to compete at the School Sport Australia Under-15 Championships held in the Barossa Valley, South Australia in February-March. Ben gained great experience on tour and we look forward to him making his way up through the grades next season.
Tasmanian Women
Brooke and Lauren Hepburn both represented the Tasmanian Roar T20 and One-day teams. Lucy Hamilton played T20 and the three girls all played in the Women’s CA Cup. Meg Philips was included in the State U/15 team and was named in the Australian U/15 squad.
Former players
Australian
At the highest level, former A Grade premiership player Xavier Doherty claimed 4 wickets on debut for Australia in an ODI match against Sri Lanka. He went on to play 5 ODI matches in the series. Even more impressive was his selection in the 1st Ashes test vs England in Brisbane. ‘X’ took 2/41 in the first innings including the big scalp of Ian Bell, and also made 16 runs on debut. He went on to play the 2nd test in Adelaide.
Tasmanian
Five former Lions were an integral part of the successful Tasmanian Tigers Sheffield Shield team that defeated NSW at Bellerive in March.
Alex Doolan produced two very important knocks batting at three making 46 and 65 not out in the second innings and was there when the winning runs were hit.‘Dools’ also made 77 @ 26 in 5 games in the one-day competition and took 5 catches. The 2011-12 season promises to be a huge season for Dools if the end of last season is anything to go by.
James Faulkner had an outstanding season in all forms of the game, culminating in winning the Ricky Ponting Medal for the Tigers Player of the Year. He also won the Young Player of the Year for the second straight year as well as the Scott Mason Memorial Captains Award. James had an outstanding Sheffield Shield Final with the bat and ball, taking 3/76 in the NSW first innings and backing it up with a well compiled 71 in the Tas first innings. He finished with 36 wickets in the shield season and took 12 wickets and made 144 runs in one-day cricket. The only disappointment came after being named in the Australia A tour of Zimbabwe, when he was struck down with glandular fever and could not make the trip.
Tom Triffett would have been pinching himself after coming into the Shield side late in the season and performing very well behind the stumps. ‘Triff’ made 20 runs in the first innings and took two catches behind the stumps in the second. He finished with 19 catches in the shield season.
Xavier Doherty also claimed 3/67 in the first innings of final removing key top order batsmen when Tassie needed them. ‘X’ took 22 wickets in the shield season and added 10 wickets in the one-day competition despite being on national duties for part of the season.
Tim Coyle continues to build on his reputation as one of the best coaches in the country. The Ten times A Grade NTCA premiership player was again instrumental in leading the Tigers to another title.
Jeremy Smith, Tigers squad member capped a frustrating injured plagued year by winning the TCA premiership with Lindisfarne after coming from 7th going into the final round games. ‘Snags’ played 1 one-day game this season against NSW in Burnie.
The LCC are proud to have been involved in the development of these players.
