Good start for 3rd Grade
Launceston played Westbury in round 1 at the NTCA no2 ground and Launceston won the toss and sent Westbury into bat. We bowled Westbury out for 112 with Cody Townend the standout of the bowlers with 5-27. Ben Fraser also bowled very well with figures of 2-12. The side did very well to keep Westbury to this total as we lost Alfie Gude to injury prior to the drinks break and he didn’t return for the remainder of the match (Alfie went to hospital to get 4 stitches after he was hit on the chin keeping up to the stumps).
Chasing 113 for victory Launceston batted quite well with Sam Briggs opening the bat and top scoring with 37 in a small run chase. Other notable scores were Josh Francombe 19 and Jacob Murphy 18. Launceston won the match with 4 wickets and 10 overs to spare. It was a great result for a very young side and a sign of the year to come.
