Season Report 2010/11
Season 2010/11 for the second grade side started well (4 wins from 7 games) but finished poorly after Christmas to finish on 5 wins, lost 6, draw 1.
The greatest pleasure derived for the season was the strength and stand out performances of some of junior players. Most of whom formed part of the Sunday League competition after Christmas – and no coincidence, a good part of the reason for their successful season, unfortunately losing the GF to George Town narrowly. Well done to the 3rds!
Our second grade side fielded 38 players during the season, compared to just 19 in the A grade squad, which typified at times the struggle we had accumulating a side with sufficient experience to tackle the better sides. However, nothing should be taken away from some of the performances during the year, most noticeably Scott Brewer who cleaned up all the trophies – Club Champion, Best & Fairest, Batting Average & Aggregate, Bowling Average & Aggregate. Well done Brew and thanks for your leadership assistance during the year.
The junior ranks are filled with plenty of talented, future A grade cricketers. Namely, James Bowen, James Whiteley, Jonty Manktelow, George Pyecroft, Michael Cashion, Sam Briggs, Ben Humphrey, Ben Fraser and Ryan Davis amongst plenty of others but I’d like to make a special mention to Ross Tulich, who took a limited opportunity in A grade mid way through the season (taking 2/22 against South Launceston). Ross played every game in the 2nd grade side during the year taking 12 wickets, but as an under 17 player, was limited to spells of 6 overs at a time (making it hard to bowl lengthy spells!)
Well done to the victorious A grade side, well led by Paul Bunton for reclaiming the A grade premiership.
A big thanks to our very loyal scorer, Peter Davy for filling this thankless task yet again, you’re a legend Pete! Thanks to all the volunteers that served behind the bar and canteen all year, without these people the club would not be able to survive. Also, thanks to all our loyal supporters: St Lukes Health, Royal Oak, JBS SportsPower, Launceston Mitsubishi, Orbit Fitness, Hotel Grand Chancellor, KPMG.
